Number 9: Yoga

Practicing yoga was something I had never even thought about until a couple of years ago. It was my physiotherapist who suggested i start to help improve a chronic problem with my shoulders and neck which had become very stiff and impacting my posture in a very negative way.

A friend operates her own yoga studio so I contacted her and joined up.  

There are many variations of yoga and she teaches Iyengar yoga. This focusses on getting perfect alignment in the asana( poses) and helps with strength and mobility.

It has been a slow burn but gradually things are improving. I have always had a problem with body awareness and the yoga practice has also helped with this. Occasionally I practice at home now too as I find it really helps to stretch everything out and also helps to clear my mind of all the everyday detritus.

One of the highlights of my yoga journey was on holiday in Santorini last year when I got up early each morning to practice outside with their resident yogi overlooking the sea just after dawn.
